Bichon Frise
“Bichon”
The name Bichon Frise is pronounced BEE-shon Free-ZAY.
“Bichon Frise” is French for “fluffy little dog”
In America we know these dogs as just “Bichons”.
In the 1300’s only the Italian Nobility owned these great little dogs,
in the 1500’s it became a favorite of the French nobility.
In the year 2000+ they have gained the reputation as “the suburban poodle” This nick name was given to them by
Dayna, an experienced dog groomer whose clients wanted a small hypo-allergic family
pet, (but not as hyper and yappy as a toy poodle, and without the fussy haircut).
This
cheerful little dog looks like a giant puffball, but is healthy and sturdy enough
for kids to play with and excersize.
Bichons get along well with just about anybody, including strangers and other animals. They are active, alert and curious and
contrary to what is being said, are highly trainable, housetraining can be accomplished
as well as any other breed.
Bichons
are always white, some have crème or peach colored ears.
Height
is between 9 and 12 inches at the withers, weight between 8 and 14 pounds.
Cairn Care bears
(Cairn X Shih Tzu)
Cairn Terrier
The dog Toto in the Wizard of Oz was a Cairn Terrier.
They are peppy little dogs with “bottle brush” faces. They range in size from 9-10 inches at the
shoulder and mature from 12 to 14 pounds (these ideal sizes are at two years of
age). They are lively, happy, and friendly, They make great family pets and because
they are alert and smart they are easily trained.
They come in any solid color (other than white), and many
have dark ears, muzzle and tail tip.
Their name came from Scotland.
A cairn is a small pile of stones traditionally created as memorials to family
members and were also used as landmarks
to guide travelers. Cairns were handy
places for small mammals to hide after
robbing henhouses or granaries. Farmers
trained their terriers to invade the cairns and do away with the “enemies”. These little companion dogs became
known as Cairn Terriers.
Chihuahua
These are graceful, alert, quick little dogs
with a sweet expression. They are small,
(well, really tiny) usually under 6 pounds in weight.
Many celebrities own these little pocket pups,
Paris Hilton owns two.
The Chihuahua’s main ancestor was probably the
Techichi, who existed as early as the ninth century as a favorite dog of Central
American Indians. Somewhere in their
history the Mexican hairless dog which originally came from Asia, was bred with
the smaller Techichi which resulted
in the Chihuahua.
Because these dogs originated in the warm climate,
they will need a sweater or jacket to brave the colder weather.
Chihuahuas can have long or short coats and
any color – solid, marked or splashed- is acceptable.
Cockapoo (Cocker
spaniel X poodle)
These
are the perfect companion dogs. They
have been bred for a long time-- we have taken the cocker (which was America’s favorite
dog for years) crossed it with a toy poodle and have come up with a dog that won’t
shed much, is playful, easy to train and loves the whole family.
They want to be with you wherever you are.
They
come in solid colors, usually with white toe and white bibs on their chests, as
well as spotted black and white, brown and white anf black with tan points.
They
range in size from 10 to 14 inches at the shoulders and weight can range from 10
to 18 pounds. Their coats can be curly
to wavy with little curls at the tips of their long ears.

(Doxie, Weiner Dog)
The Dachshund has a lively upbeat personality—spunky,
curious and friendly. The Dachshund’s
original job in Germany he was created to hunt down badgers.
“Dachshund” means “badger dog” in German.
Badger dogs of some type have existed since
the 1400’s. The Dachshund as a specific
breed has been around since the early 1600s.
He is low and long so he could fit inside the den and go after the badger.
He loves to play and clown around.
He is happy in the city or country. These pups are very healthy but
because of his long back, he shouldn’t be allowed
to jump from heights, including furniture.
Dachshunds have three different varieties of
coats: smooth, wirehaired or longhaired.
There are regular sized and miniature dogs of
each coat type.
The Miniature size grows to be 11 pounds or
less.

Shiba Inu
Silky Terrier
The Silky is a spunky little dog, whose ancestor’s
original purpose was to kill rats and snakes in
Australia
. To make him better suited to city
living, (apartments and small houses) he was crossed with a tiny Yorkshire Terrier,
whose coat is soft and silky. The resulting
dog is the Silky terrier—with the lustrous coat of the Yorkie, but a little larger
and sportier.
The silky is a smart dog, quick moving and quick
thinking. He has an inquisitive nature
and a zest for living. He is smart
and easy to train.
The beautiful coat needs only a few minutes
daily grooming to keep it tangle free.
He has dark sparkling eyes and a black nose, his color is always the same, “blue”
(or silver gray) and tan.
Shih Tzu
Shih Tzu X Westie
Schockers (Shihtzu
X Cockers)
This is a cross between a Cocker and a Shih Tzu. These family companion dogs are a great
blend between these two breeds because it tends to tame down the energy of the Cocker
and at the same time it gives a snuggly lap dog affection the Shih Tzu offers. The Cocker is a hunting dog and the
Shih Tzu is a toy dog.
If you are looking for a loyal dog, this is a nice choice. If you are fixing things around the yard,
and might be under your car doing repairs, this dog will be right under there with
you, and if he was any smarter, it might hand you the right tool.
When you are finished with your work, these merry dogs will be ready for
a great game of ball, they are natural fetchers.
They love to go on walks, and run with the kids.
Their size ranges from
10-15 inches at the shoulders and 12-20 pounds.
The pups in any given litter can vary in size so it is good to be able to choose
your pup early to compare him to the other littermates as the bigger pups in the
litter will be the bigger dogs at maturity, as will the smaller pups will mature
as smaller full grown dogs.
Cocker s and Shih Tzus come in all colors, so the Schockers do too. Some pups are spotted, some have solid
colored bodies with white feet and
white bibs on their chests and some are black with tan points.
Teddybears (Shih
Tzu X Bichon)
This
cross has been a favorite of ours for years.
These pups are usually pastel in color, sometimes white with apricot ears.
They
don’t shed, are “allergy friendly” and love to play, fetch a ball and learn tricks. They have a “soft” temperament, meaning
they are very sweet and lovable and fit with a busy family or love that special
child or grandma. They are small and
are a good fit for an apartment or condo.
Westies
Yorkshire Terrier
(Yorkies)
Because
these dogs are so tiny and have such splendid coats many people think they are delicate
dogs. They are hardy and spunky. Yorkies
are little terriers which means they love to play and investigate.
They are bundles of energy as puppies, though older Yorkies can be quiet
and settled.
